Beyond the heavy riffs and the dark theatrical aesthetics of the band lies a thriving community artists who had transformed admiration to inspiration. From hauntingly beautifulart, detailed cosplay, to digital illustrations, these creators channel the band’s imagery, lore, music, and sometimes even the silliest moments of the band, into original works that keep the spirit of Ghost alive in between albums and tours.** **This feature explores the vibrant ecosystem of Ghost inspired artist with each of their own style, story, and medium. Whether it be sketching the new and old Papas, to ghouls, or their OriginalCharacters (OC) in the world of Ghost. This isn’t just a fan art, this is a fan ritual.** **I had the pleasure of interviewing two wonderful artists from twitter, both inspired by the new album and by the song ‘Lachryma’. What clip or video brought you into the community? ***I started posting Ghost Fan art in March of 2023\. I believed around the time Impera dropped, I saw a TikTok of somebody lip syncing to Witch Image. The second chorus where it skips a line and goes; “You never want this to be over… someone’s flesh is rotting tonight,” and I was hooked ever since.*** What is your go-to song when making art? The one where you look at the playlist and go ‘I can finish a sketch/ this piece into this song’? ***Ever since it dropped, Skeletá has been my go-to, especially songs like Umbra Marks of the Evil one, it makes me feel so pumped up and energized, it’s all I listen to on loop at both my job and also while drawing.*** What’s the idea for the piece and how did it translate to the gorgeous art that you’ve published? **I *originally got the idea from Ghost’s post teasing the Lachryma music video, “You’ve made your bed, now you shall cry on it” really stuck with me, made me think of Copia’s struggle excepting his promotion, excepting he has been replaced as Papa. I absolutely love the twin dynamic of Copiaand Perpetua, how they mirror each other, so I’ve been drawing them alot hehe.*** If you can trade any art style with a fellow Ghost artist, which artist would they be and why? ***Ahh, there’s so many I could choose, the ghost fandom has so many incredible artists! I always loved @/nghoul\_cloud’s comic style and @/asperaghoul’s posing, very easy to read, very flowy, and an overall nice art style! I also loved @/skeletass’ use of colors.*** What would be your dream project and what’s your proudest moment as an artist? ***My dream project would probably work for a band, similar to how Zbigniew Bielak is for Ghost, doing album and song artwork or maybe even official merch!! And going along with merch, I am so very proud of how my Etsy store has been doing, even though it’s just fan merch, mainly Ghost stickers hehe, I love designing them, and I love celebrating Ghost with fellow fans by selling them.*** Thank you for your time! How did you get hook into the band, what song orvideo got you into it? ***I started making art for the band sometime in early-mid 2022!! I found them through Volbeat actually! I was watching Volbeat tour videos in February 2022 and stumbled upon one of Ghost at the same time and was hooked almost instantly!*** What’s your go to song when making art? The song that makes you jam our and makes you productive suddenly and have the urge to finish your art(s)? ***Honestly, almost any Ghost song here lately. I’ve had Skeletá on repeat during my drawing process!! I basically listened to Lachryma on repeat the entire team I work on that piece!! It’s usually a mix of Ghost, Sleep Token, occasionally Volbeat or Queen.*** How did your idea translate to that amazing piece? ***Well that music video as a whole really reminded me of an old movie so I really wanted to go for an old movie poster sort of vibe, which I think I achieved in a way with lettering!! The coloring of the video itself was really inspiring as well and his expressions. I knew there was a lot I could play withand put together that could make something very visually interesting!*** If you can trade art style with any fellow Ghost artist(s), who would it be and why? ***That’s a great questions! There are three that inspires me a lot! kittheghoul (IG) , taylaedraws (IG) , and madpatti\_ (IG). Those three are so incredibly talented! I adore their styles so much. They’ve all really inspired me to keep working on my craft and to keep getting better!*** Now, how do you deal with your creative blocks? ***That’s a tough one, haha. Creative blocks are just like anything in life y’know? They come and go. You hit walls and eventually just like you do with anything. The most important thing for me has always been to let myself have breaks when I start feeling that creep in again. To allow myself to feel my way through the block and see if. can’t find maybe a song, a movie, or a comic that will spark inspiration for me! And if not, I allow myself to rest and usually life has a way of gifting me something that brings me back around again.*** For my last question, what would be your dream project or goal with your art? ***A dream project would be absolutely working with Ghost either on merch or like an album cover or something! I don’t have a specific goal with it!! It’s just something I enjoy sharing with others! It’s something I’ve always loved to do and being able to share that with people has been a gift itself.*** Perfect! Thank you for your time! Helped each other with the papal paints too. We have ghoul cosplays in the works too. My concert buddy, my best friend, one fay we'll have matching tattoos ... It's disheartening to see the rise of AI in the ghost fandom space as an artist myself that I wanted to replicate that same retaliation like the artists mentioned before. The frater pens came out and I had seen the perfect opportunity. I drew it 20 minutes and it's not my best work but I think that only reinforces the meaning behind it. People can pick up a pencil and draw it doesn't have to be good it just has to have your emotions behind it. Pretty grim and dark, but this band does not shy away from more serious matters, so with the subject matter and the whole showman aesthetic, I just know Ghost's vibe fits perfectly with Cabaret. If you take it at face value, Skeletá is about persevering through the rough times and not "sitting alone in your room" despite how "dark is the season", you still gotta go live your life and have fun. It was there that experiencing the warmth of the song, Peacefield, cemented it as one of my favourites from their catalogue. t’s a guiding hand to the listener, assuring us that despite the darkness we may be facing in our lives that seasons do infact change - Nothing lasts forever. Wanting to convey that ‘guiding hand’ - I chose to have Papa V Perpetua outstretch his hand amidst flames and embers … I’m in love with the idea of Papa being associated with eclipse or moon imagery, so I had to incorporate that in some way as well, especially given the line ‘A black moon over the Peacefield’. Art nouveau inspired. The veil— a direct reference to Our Lady of Sorrows —held up by his armoured clawed hands, opens to reveal himself. Opposite to Marisol, whose garments engulf her. While we don't know much about him yet, I see a divine femininity in him. Be it his namesake, or his ornamental and 'princess-like' garments, there's deliberate gender non-conforming expression which I wished to explore in this work. But it's such a grand illustration, he's so glorified, poised, proud, he is strong despite it … The trans headcanon comes from Satanized and Lachryma feeling so heavily like queer anthems and trying to get past feeling wrong for being who you are. I myself am a gay man and I've felt so many times so broken for feeling so different to others just because of how opprssive society can be... Skeletá truly wants tou to be YOU.” \~ Sulphur --- # Long Live the Fan Mass! These artist are doing more than homage, they are building a ghostly archive. Ghost has blurred the line between space and spirituality- and the fans are right there in the liminal space, re-interpreting and re-imagining at every turn, every nook and cranny. What unites this artists isn’t just their love for the music- it’s their shared instinct to build, design, sketch, and sculpt a world that doesn’t just entertain, but also inspires. In a fandom this rich with creativity, perhaps the real legacy of Ghost lies not just on their sound, but in the community of creators they summoned. **Got art in your bones?
