Ghost are on hiatus. The Skeletour ended on February 23rd at the Intuit Dome in California, and Tobias Forge has been upfront about why: fifteen years of touring, two kids at home, and a creative tank that needed time to refill. For now, there are no shows, no new album on the horizon, and no official announcement of what comes next.

***But something is moving.***

Back in September 2025, at the end of the North American leg of the Skeletour, Ghost confirmed that their two final shows at Mexico City’s Palacio de los Deportes had been filmed. Not with the big-budget production that made *Rite Here Rite Now* such a visual spectacle, but on 16mm film. Old school, grainy, raw. The band posted about it themselves: *“We shot it all on 16mm, for the rest of the world to see at some point. But for now it’ll be our little secret.”* Vanessa Warwick, who hosts Ghost’s GTV, was even more direct: *“A new Ghost live concert movie is in the making.”*

That was almost eight months ago. Since then, nothing official.

Which brings us to the Instagram post that caught our attention this week. The account is **@**[**thedpsanford**](https://www.instagram.com/thedpsanford/?ref=gonstmedia.com), Dylan Sanford, a Los Angeles-based director and cinematographer. Last week he posted a close-up of 16mm film running through a scanner. The image alone is striking, you can see the film threading through the machine. The caption: *“scanning a film I shot that comes out in theaters later this year, while across town, another show I shot (captured digitally) is getting a film out. glad to see the photochemical process is still going strong.”* Read that again slowly. A show he shot, coming to theaters later this year..

Then come the comments. **@**[**amirchamdin**](https://www.instagram.com/amirchamdin/?ref=gonstmedia.com), Amir Chamdin, the creative director behind the Skeletour’s entire visual production dropped three fire emojis. And when a follower told Dylan they couldn’t wait to see it, he replied: *“when they finally announce it, I’ll make sure to shout it from the mountaintops. gonna be fun.”* An announcement is coming.

There is one more detail worth adding. Dylan Sanford follows Ghost on Instagram, and back in September 2025, when the band posted about filming Mexico City on 16mm, he liked it. Maybe that is a coincidence. At this point, we will let you decide.

The 16mm choice is worth thinking about on its own terms. Where *Rite Here Rite Now* was cinematic and narrative-driven, with storylines woven between performance footage and a full theatrical presentation, a 16mm film implies something different: rawer, more immediate, closer to the feeling of actually being in the room. Given that the Skeletour was the most ambitious live production Ghost have ever mounted and the one tour where phones were banned, meaning almost no fan footage exists, a proper document of it feels overdue.

Back in May 2025, the date of December 2026 was mentioned (Chapter 21) in connection with a potential meeting between Papa V and his brother Frater Imperator. Whether that ties into the film’s release, a new era announcement, or something else entirely, nobody outside the inner circle knows. But Ghost doesn’t drop dates casually.
